assisting grieving families with the loss of their baby

Treasured Hearts currently provides each family at University Medical Center with grief counseling, beautiful baby gowns and blankets, birth certificates, teddy bears with a poem attached, personalized memory boxes, framed clay imprints of the baby’s foot and black and white photography by a local artist which is customized to each family’s wishes. Additionally, we have compiled a comprehensive directory of local funeral homes, initiated a follow through program to keep an open connection between the nurses who cared for the family during this sensitive period.

Community involvement and awareness is essential for us to fulfill the dire needs of this special patient population. Our organization follows the mission statement of University Medical Center, “Service is Our Passion” and wants to serve these families with the assistance of local businesses and individuals whose hearts are touched by this compelling cause.

A community of Family Birth Center nurses at University Medical Center established Treasured Hearts. We identified an overlooked need in our community for parents who have lost infants. We discovered over half of our patient population were unready for the emotional and financial strains of burying their precious baby. We feel compelled to assist these families in a time of grief and relieve the stress of finding financial support in laying their infant to rest.
